Biotus Oy, a Finnish company developing biological pest control, acquired I4scope mobile
microscope for resale. The mobile microscope developed by VTT and commercialized by I4
Techno is used in the quality control of the graphic industry and in school education. Pest
recognition represents a new breakthrough for I4scope.
Adhesive traps are a traditional way of identifying pests in farms. Adhesive traps catch pests,
such as thrips, whiteflies and mosquitoes. Detailed microscope images of the pests can be
captured with a mobile phone that has a I4scope mobile microscope attached in front of the
camera. Precise pictures taken with the mobile phone normal camera application can be sent
to Biotus for analysis, even with WhatsApp. Based on the analysis, suitable control insects are
selected.

I4scope has been featured in the events of Finnish Glasshouse Growers’ Association and the
Finnish Fruit and Berry Farmers Association and it has been acquired extensively for use by
farmers and in gardening.
